Your Initial Consultation

Cosmetic procedures are typically booked several weeks in advance, and a deep plane facelift is no different. The first step is to schedule an initial consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon if you haven’t done so already.

During this appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one conversation with your doctor to discuss your goals for the surgery, voice any concerns you may have, and get all the preoperative information you need to prepare for your upcoming facelift. Prior to this consultation, it’s a good idea to note down any medical conditions and surgical interventions you have had and make a detailed list of all the medications you currently take.

The physicians at Glasgold Group take your health and safety extremely seriously, which is why they ask all patients to visit with their primary care physician for a pre-op examination. Once your doctor has cleared you for new jersey facelift surgery, you can begin preparing for the procedure.

One Month Before Your Procedure

The earlier you start preparing for your deep plane facelift surgery, the better. If you smoke, you should be ready to quit the habit at least six to four weeks prior to your procedure. This is because smoking decreases blood flow and slows down your body’s wound-healing process. Smoking before any surgical intervention puts you at risk of potentially serious complications like blood clots, heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, and death. You will also have to put off smoking for at least four more weeks after your facelift procedure.

A month before your deep plane facelift surgery is also an ideal time to make sure you’re nourishing your body and building your immune system to ensure a speedy recovery. You can do this by eating a nutrient-rich diet packed with raw and cooked fruits and vegetables, enough high-quality protein, and healthy fats. You should also keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

Other tips to help you prepare during this period:

  • Perform all pre-surgery tests requested by your doctor, including your preoperative evaluation with your primary care physician and any required lab tests
  • Take care of your skin and avoid sunburn by wearing sunscreen daily on your face. Your doctor can give you recommendations based on your skin type and specific needs
  • Make transportation arrangements for the day of the procedure
  • Coordinate with your partner, friend, or family member to stay home with you during the first few days after your facelift surgery
  • Arrange time off for your recovery period. Most patients take at least two weeks off from their usual activities to allow their bodies plenty of time to recover. This includes avoiding strenuous exercise and activities that make you sweat or increase your blood pressure

One Week Before Your Procedure

As your surgery day draws near, your surgical team will have given you a detailed list of instructions, including any medications you should stop taking prior to your procedure, such as any drugs that may increase your risk for bleeding, like aspirin, vitamin E, and ibuprofen. At this point, you will also be asked to come into the office for a final pre-operative appointment to make sure you’re healthy enough to undergo deep plane facelift surgery and answer any questions you may have.

One week before your surgery, you should also:

  • Stop drinking alcohol
  • Fill any prescription medications
  • Stock up on essentials, like gauze, ice packs, zip-up or button-up shirts and sweatshirts, facial cleansing wipes, magazines, books, and movies
  • Prepare your recovery nook. This may be an area of your house that includes a bed/sofa/reclining chair, soft pillows to prop yourself upright, and a TV or some other form of entertainment
  • Color your hair and/or get a haircut unless you don’t mind waiting four to six weeks after your facelift surgery
  • Prepare frozen meals, including a few dishes that are easy to chew
  • Make arrangements for children and pets

One Day Before Your Procedure

The day before your facelift new jersey, make sure you have everything in place for a smooth and comfortable recovery. If you anticipate you’ll be extremely anxious prior to your surgery, you can ask your doctor to prescribe you a relaxing medication ahead of time. However, it’s important that you don’t take any new medicines before consulting your surgical team first.

You won’t be able to wash your hair for 3-4 days following your deep plane facelift, so make sure to take a long, nice shower the night before. This is also important because your doctor will hide the incisions along the hairline to keep scarring virtually invisible, so having your hair clean will help prevent potential infections. Don’t eat or drink anything the night before your procedure unless your surgeon specifically allows you to. Food and anesthesia don’t mix.

General anesthesia can only be administered on an empty stomach to reduce the chance of nausea and complications during surgery. And finally, try to keep a calm and positive perspective. Remember that this is an elective procedure, and you’ve done everything you can to prepare for it, including receiving a clean bill of health from your primary physician.

It’s not helpful to stay up until the wee hours of the night looking up potential plastic surgery complications and bad outcomes. While you may not be able to completely shut off the jittery nerves, you can keep your mind busy by listening to a podcast, watching a show, or going out for a walk. And if everything else fails, you can always call it a night and go to bed early!
